KEARNEY COUNTY
NOTE: The city of Kearney is NOT in Kearney county. It is in Buffalo county.
HISTORY
Kearney (pronounced Car-ney) county was formed in 1860. It was named for Fort Kearny, which in turn was named for Brigade General Stephen W. Kearny. It consists of 516 square miles. County population was about 6500 as of 2010 census. Minden is the county seat.
